Privacy policy

This is our starter policy for launch and we will keep it up to date as the product grows.
Who we are
Norse Watches is an Irish team building a safety watch for older loved ones in Ireland. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@norsewatches.ie.
Norse Watches Limited, registered in Ireland, company number 827495.
What we collect
When you register your interest, we collect the email address you give us and, only if you choose to answer, how you heard about us. Our website is hosted on Netlify, and the register-interest form is handled by Netlify Forms, so your submission is stored there on our behalf. Our hosting also processes standard technical data such as your IP address and browser type to serve and secure the site.
If you message us on WhatsApp, we see your phone number, your WhatsApp name and what you send us, and we use them only to reply. WhatsApp is run by Meta, so those messages are also handled under WhatsApp's own terms and privacy policy. If you would rather not use WhatsApp, email us instead.
Why we collect it
We use your email only to let you know when Norse Watches is available and to contact you about joining as one of our first families. We do not sell your data, and we will not send you unrelated marketing. Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form.
How we understand the site
If you accept analytics, we use Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors move around the site, such as which parts of a page are read, clicked or scrolled past, so we can make it clearer. Clarity is run by Microsoft on our behalf and records page interactions, not who you are. Anything you type into a form is masked before it is recorded. Microsoft may process your IP address to deliver the service. Clarity does not load at all unless you accept, and our legal basis for it is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. You can read how Microsoft handles this data in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
When you register your interest, we also note which page you first arrived on and the site that sent you there, such as a search engine, so we know which of our pages are helpful. This travels with your form submission. We only keep it in your browser between pages if you have accepted analytics.
The family app and the watch
If you join us as a family, the app and the watch handle more than an email address, and we want to be plain about it. We collect your email to sign you in, the first name you give for your loved one, the phone numbers you enter for the family, and what the watch reports: its location, battery, step counts, a heart-rate reading we use only to tell whether the watch is being worn, and any fall or SOS signal. We use these only to watch over your loved one and to reach you. We never sell them and we never use them for advertising.
After a fall is confirmed, the watch rings the family's phones in turn. This can be a one-way call, so the family can hear what is happening around your loved one, while your loved one does not hear them. It only happens after a confirmed fall. Norse does not record these calls, but if nobody answers, the call may go to that person's voicemail.
A few trusted companies process this data on our behalf, each for one job. Supabase stores it in the EU and sends the sign-in email through Resend. flespi, an EU telemetry broker, carries the watch's messages to us. OpenStreetMap's Nominatim turns a position into a short area name such as "around Salthill", and OpenStreetMap's tile servers draw the map in the app, which means they receive requests for the map squares around your loved one's position and your phone's IP address, as any online map does. Google Firebase delivers alert notifications to your phone; the notification text says what happened, never a position. Twilio sends a text message for a fall or SOS, to Irish and UK numbers only. When the daily summary is switched on, Anthropic's API is sent your loved one's first name, the area names and the day's counts to write the summary in plain words, and nothing else. The app asks for no location permission on your phone at all.
Raw watch data is deleted after 90 days. The latest position and the day-by-day activity history stay while your account is open. You can ask us to delete your account and everything with it at any time, and an in-app deletion option is coming with the app store release.
How long we keep it
We keep your details until you ask us to remove them or until they are no longer needed for the purpose above. You can ask us to delete them at any time.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to withdraw your consent. To do any of these, email us at hello@norsewatches.ie and we will respond within a reasonable time. You also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
